Ventura Landscaping Ideas for the New Year

Well its a new year and here in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties its the time of the year it can be cold and rainy. We want to give you a couple tips for getting your landscape through the winter.

First off, you want to make sure that your drains, drainage system, and rain gutters are clog free. If you don’t have a drainage sstem already, now is the time to get one in. This winter so far we have already completed new drain installs in Camarillo, Ojai, Oakview, Carpinteria, and Thousand Oaks. Make sure your drainage system uses triple-walled poly pipe for maximum strength and durability. Also think about ended your drain out let in an eco-friendly pop-up outlet in your landscape instead of in your gutter at the street. These pop-ups stay closed unless there is flow to open them up. And by terminating them in the landscape, you prevent waste from going to our gutters and eventually to the ocean.

Secondly, its a great time to spread a fresh coating of recycled wood shavings top dressing to your planters. This helps keep the weds from coming up as well as keeping the moisture in the soil.

Next, if you don’t have a weather-controlled irrigation system for your sprinklers, please visit our Irrigation page for more information. Especially during the winter, weather-controlled irrigation systems will save you water by automatically adjusting your sprinkler schedule for the cooler temperatures and will measure rainfall and adjust the watering accordingly.

Lastly, if you are thinking about a landscape project in the coming year, now’s the time to get your landscape design done. As we move into the spring and summer months, we become bogged down with design and install projects. Winter is the perfect time to get your design done and your plan in place. That way you can be ready to pull the trigger when the time is right.

Thats is for now. We wish everyone the best of luck in 2011 and if there is anyway we can help you take your outdoor spaces and landscapes to the next level don’t hesitate to contact us.
