This is a landscape design and build project we completed a few months back in Camarillo in Ventura County near Oxnard and Thousand Oaks. The client tasked us with making the exterior of her yard as beautiful as the inside. The outside had been neglected and needed updates. We began by removing the entire back lawn and all dying plants as well as all the dyed red mulch (bad stuff). We then excavated the soil in preparation for the slate tile paver walkway that would connect the existing patio to the existing golf cart path as well as for the new concrete mow strip to separate the golf course lawn form the new planted area. After pouring the concrete mowstrip, we poured a solid concrete walkway and then laid the slate tile pavers over the top of it. The entire sprinkler system was upgraded by adding a weather-controlled timer, the Rainbird ESP-SMT, and by upgrading all nozzles to low-flow, high-efficiency products from Toro and Hunter. We then planted a fresh, new pallet of plants including low water ground cover and flax for hillside where former lawn was and plenty of specimen and color plantings to complete the layout. Finally a 2” layer of recycled wood shavings was added to all planters for weed control and moisture retention.
